Argentina Government Recovers Building Squatted for 40 Years in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, January 28 (NA) – A government-owned building has been recovered after being squatted for four decades in the San Nicolás neighborhood. According to the Argentine News Agency, the property is located on Tucumán Street 1727, meters from Callao Avenue, whose neighbors had filed complaints about noisy disturbances and security incidents. City Police, support network personnel, and the Auxiliary Guard carried out the operation due to the risk of collapse, and following the inspection, the building was sealed. Inside the building, owned by CONICET, flags and banners of political groups were found. For this reason, Head of Government Jorge Macri commented on the eviction: "In the city, there is no room for lukewarmness or the guaranteeing verse that protects those who live from crime." It is a structure designed by Arturo Prins, the renowned Argentine civil engineer and architect, mainly remembered for conceiving the imposing neo-Gothic building of the Faculty of Engineering of the UBA, on Las Heras Avenue near Pueyrredón.
